Jose A Esteves is a partner in the IP & Technology group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP. In practice for 20 years, he focuses on IP monetization and strategic IP transactions. He represents clients from the United States and abroad. Examples of IP monetisation representations include: Theravance in a $450 million royalty securitization; Goldman Sachs as underwriter in two securitizations of bundled pharmaceutical royalty streams; MIPS in the sale of patents to a consortium led by AST for $350 million while simultaneously auctioning off its operating business; IPXI in connection with certain structuring matters and with a certain ULR offering; Amylin Pharmaceuticals in structuring an innovative synthetic $1.2 billion royalty interest with Eli Lilly; and various clients, including Fortress Investment Group, in IP-collateralised loans and royalty interest purchases.

Mr Esteves strives to structure creative, straightforward deals in complex circumstances to achieve clients’ goals efficiently. He is a graduate of Yale Law School, holds a master’s in electrical engineering from Columbia University and worked as a computer design engineer for three years at IBM Corporation, specialising in memory subsystems design.
