Ilya is qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney, an English High Court Litigator and a UPC litigator. He is also an EPO Opposition and Appeal specialist. He has been involved in prosecution of over 4000 patent applications, successfully handled numerous multi-party oppositions and successfully conducted litigation in the English High Court and the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court. Having real experience of every part of the IP lifecycle he has long been recognised as a leading IP strategist winning multiple awards. Clients have ranged from startups to multinationals (and unusually many of clients he advised as startups have become multinationals) building, managing and enforcing or defending IP portfolios of real commercial value.

With an MA from Cambridge University in Natural Sciences he handles technology across a broad spectrum from cutting edge AI , software and electronics through medtech to energy technology and mechanical engineering.

He is recognised by clients and competitors for having an uncanny ability to see through a complex situation to where the best commercial end goal lies. As a result he and his team routinely get clients efficiently to where they need to be in a fraction of the time and cost of traditional more pedestrian approaches.

He is equally happy taking a top down financial strategic approach with the FD as rolling up sleeves and working with the engineers on designing around a problem or turning a product idea into an effective web of IP that multiplies the value and becomes a real asset in itself.
