As a scientist, engineer and lifelong inventor, Founder and CEO David Van Wie established Aventurine to help inventors and entrepreneurs source capital and execute on growth strategies as well as provide strategic advice to IP investment managers. He is a Silicon Valley veteran with over 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur. David has been a tech financier, startup coach and advisor for over 20 years. He has served as both an officer, director and investor of private and public companies.

As co-founder & CTO of InterTrust, David is a pioneer in digital rights management and secure distributed systems, creating one of the most valuable patent families in history which generating $8 Billion in value. He served on the board, as Chairman of InterTrust International and SVP of Research. InterTrust listed on NASDAQ in 1999 and was acquired by Sony/Phillips in 2003. With a foundation of solid IP strategy and execution, InterTrust won two landmark settlements in a patent case with Microsoft in 2004 and Apple in 2014. The company continues to operate a successful global licensing business supported by ongoing research and development through STAR Labs, established by David during his tenure.

Since the early 2000s David has served on the board and/or invested in several startups including Palo Alto Software, an online sales & marketing pioneer outselling all of their combined competition; Rumblefish, who struck a landmark licensing deal with YouTube; Progressive Solutions, acquired by Solarsoft and now part of Epicor; and Sococo, which yielded a 42.73% IRR on investment.
